Michael started his career at Aston Villa whom he originally joined as a trainee. He made just over 60 first-team appearances for them and had a brief loan-spell at Scarborough from late-November 1993. He was transferred to Wolverhampton Wanderers for a £400,000 fee in late-October 1999, and played 220 first-team games for them. Michael was on the bench for Wolves on several occasions last season but did not make a first-team appearance. He joined Cardiff City prior to the start of the Club's pre-season trip to Portugal in July 2007.Season 2007 - 08
