Previously with Barry Town, West Ham United, Derry City and Galway United, David built a good reputation with Galway in the League of Ireland and returned to Derry City in 2005. He helped them to reach runners-up position as well as an F.A.I Cup Final success, and joined Cardiff City in December 2006. David made his Championship debut for the Bluebirds in mid-February 2007 and played in seven Championship matches in 2006/07, ending the season as first-choice 'keeper.
