A former England Youth International, Peter began as a trainee wqith Aston Villa, becoming a full professional in November 2002. He made over 60 first-team appearances for Villa and also had loan-spells with Burnley in 2004/05 and with Derby in 2005/06. An Englkand Under-21 International with Villa, he was signed by Cardiff City from Villa for £250,000 on January 11th 2007 and made 19 Championship appearances for the Bluebirds last season, scoring four goals. He was in the England Under-21 squad that played in the UEFA Championship in Holland in the summer of 2007, making one substitute appearance.Season 2007 - 08
