Snap-shot: The attention seven days ahead of the season opener was rightly placed on a team performance as Cardiff beat Dutch opponents FC Twente by a single goal. Warren Feeney took his goal well after twenty eight minutes in what was a solid run-out for the lads. The waiting is now over - next up come Stoke at Ninian Park next weekend.

Chronological Report: The attendance level for a pre-season match was notably higher than we'd seen in recent years, with many of the City faithful keen for a first glimpse of the new signings, including a certain lad from Liverpool. Also making a debut under less of a spotlight was the impressive new black away kit, while the new branded Cardiff City Mitre ball also rolled onto the newly laid Ninian Park surface for a first time.

The match opened with Cardiff taking the initiative in terms of attacking play. Joe was industrious in his preferred spot on the left wing, while new boy Trevor Sinclair also looked to pull the strings on the opposite flank.

Of course, most eyes were on the progress of our new number eight, who after five minutes almost unlocked the FC Twente backline witha lovely lay-off to Joe Ledley into the area - unfortunately the ball escaping Ledley just enough to spoil his effort on goal at the death.

FC Twente looked a solid enough opponent - their team consisting of players closer to basketball player height. While any out and out box action was lacking in the opening twenty minutes, some of the build up play, taking into context the pre-season friendly conditions was impressive from both.

Our guests came their closest to a break through number eleven Huysegems did well to break the offside trap and power towards Turnbull from the right. His attempted low ball across our new signing was well executed, though Ross got down quickly to easily collect the ball.

As play continued it was clear that Fowler was struggling slightly with a thigh strain that he had picked up in the Friday training session. Before his twenty fourth minute departure however we did see some silky skills to impress his new fan-base. Robbie received a great ovation from the eight thousand plus home support, who also welcomed Warren Feeney to partner MacLean up front.

Warren didn't have to wait to impose himself on the match, waiting only four minutes to collect his first Ninian Park goal to set the game into motion. The opportunistic strike was smashed in from close range after a nice free kick was delivered from the edge of the area by Trevor Sinclair.

While our guests still looked a technical threat, it was Cardiff who continued to look the most dangerous via the likes of MacLean and Gavin Rae. Rae was close to giving us a second by using his power in the area, but was crowded out by two red shirts to deny the header.

Pre-season is all about gauging fitness levels and the coming together of the new look squad before the season opener - and City fans were pleased by a great move that was started by Trevor Sinclair bursting forward, flicking off the ball to MacLean in the middle, who then delivered a breathtaking cross over to the on-running McNaughton on the right.

MacLean then came close on forty two minutes with a powering run through the middle, brushing aside two defenders and finding himself one on one with Twente 'keeper Boschker. To be fair, the Dutch keeper did very well to read the low ball attempted by MacLean, and blocked with his body to send the ball spiralling.

The half ended with City rarely tested at the back, the black clad City defenders almost managing to score via Loovens, then Johnson as the pair tried their luck in the Twente area.

Half Time: Cardiff 1- 0 FC Twente

The second half started with less impact than the first, with City keeping the same line-up from the first forty five minutes. The action was limited, with Rae showing his defensive skills when Twente found their front foot.

The atmosphere was more relaxed inside Ninian Park, though was turned up a notch after fifty six minutes as Turnbull found Sinclair with a great goal-kick. Trevor then showed his skills to set the ball expertly to Feeney, who then from the right set a mid height cross across the box towards Joe Ledley. It would have been the move of the match, but the ball just escaped Joe's lunge as the move fell away.

Cardiff were again looking comfortable as FC Twente played attractive football without having much of an end product.

We were saddened to see Glenn Loovens forced off the pitch after sixty four minutes following a tough challenge as Twente were on the break. Glenn looked to try and find his feet before conceding defeat, eventually replaced by Chris Gunter, with McNaughton slotting into the centre-half duties.

The half continued to form as City looked largely untroubled by their Dutch guests. Changes were made as Parry, Green and Ramsey came on for Sinclair, MacLean and McPhail.

City ended on the front foot thanks to the new faces looking to impress. Two minutes of added time came and went to close off a good run out for the boys ahead of next Saturday - and you can't argue with a win to keep the mood high in the camp.
