Cardiff are closing in on the signature of Robbie Fowler after chairman Peter Ridsdale improved his contract offer.

Fowler, 32, has rejected the chance to join Sydney FC, as well as Leicester and Hull, but held talks with Ridsdale and is expected to finally agree a deal worth around £12,000 a week - although there still remains interest from other European clubs
