PETER'S END OF YEAR MESSAGE
What a Year! As another League season comes to a close, it is timely to review events of the last eight months or so. The season started with distractions off the field with the unhelpful and unwarranted legal action brought against us by 'Langston'. This distraction lasted from August of last year until the emphatic Court 'Victory' in March. The case meant that too much time and more importantly cash, was being directed away from Football and stifled any chance that we might have had of strengthening the squad in the January transfer window.
Elsewhere, off the field, the new stadium project was gathering momentum and the shape of the new stadium is there for all to see as we finish this season's League campaign here at Ninian Park. With the addition of our new training facilities at the Vale of Glamorgan Hotel complex, the building blocks are being well and truly put in place for the long term health of our Club.
On the field we had a stuttering start with results not matching performances on the field. By showing patience and a belief in what we were doing, we had a strong winter and until two or three weeks ago we still had ambitions of a play off place but unfortunately at the end, it was not to be. We will regroup in the summer and come back stronger for what will be a momentous last season at Ninian Park. We have already sold over 13,500 season tickets for our last season here and we aim for it to be truly special.
In the League Cup we progressed further than for many years with a narrow 2-1 away defeat at Anfield bringing the first dream of a trip to Wembley to an end. And then . . . along came the FA Cup!
A tricky away trip to Chasetown in the third round was quickly followed by an away visit to Hereford before an emphatic home win against Wolves. An away win at Middlesbrough gave us our first taste of Wembley and a Semi Final for the first time in 81 years against today's opponents Barnsley. Up popped Joe Ledley with a special goal and as result today is not our last match of the season as we all look forward to an FA Cup Final against Portsmouth on the 17th May. We must savour the occasion. It is truly something special.
We have come a long way over the last couple of years. We must remain patient and believe in what we are building. Thank you our supporters for your wonderful support once more, thank you to Dave Jones, his staff and the players and all of our non football staff. A year to remember! Enjoy the 17th May and I look forward to seeing you all back here once more in August.
Thank you as always,
Peter
