CARDIFF CITY NUMBERS GAME
We go to relegated Scunthorpe United on Saturday unbeaten in eight Championship matches (four wins, four draws) since our 1-0 home defeat against Leicester City on March 1st. And since then, of course, we have also come through the quarter-final and semi-final of the F.A. Cup.
We are in tenth spot and have four Championship matches remaining - at Scunthorpe on Saturday, at Wolves next Tuesday, at Burnley a week on Saturday, and finally at home to Barnsley on Sunday, May 4th.
There is currently a five-point gap between ourselves and sixth-placed Crystal Palace, and if we are to reach the play-offs, then sixth place is what we will be aiming for since fifth-placed Watford are nine points clear of us.
But we have one match in hand over all of our rivals except Wolves, and we play them at Molineux next Tuesday. So the present scenario is that we have to win at Scunthorpe and at Wolves - and if we can do that, then a play-off place is still within reach, depending also on how the clubs above us do this coming weekend.
As for those clubs, Crystal Palace play fifth-placed Watford at Selhurst Park, and if Palace lose then it will be great result for us if we can win at Scunthorpe. Seventh-placed Wolves are at home to eighth club Ipswich Town who are one point behind - would we take a draw for that match?
As for ninth club Charlton, they go to London rivals Queen's Park Rangers who look firmly fixed in a mid-table position but who are looking to finish in the top half of the Championship. But whatever happens on Saturday, we need to win!
