BARNSLEY EARLY PREVIEW
Although League positions mean nothing as far as an F.A. Cup semi-final is concerned, both Barnsley and ourselves go into Sunday's match at Wembley in contrasting form. Since our quarter-final win at Middlesbrough on March 9th, we are unbeaten in five Championship games (three wins and two draws) while Barnsley have played four matches since their quarter-final win over Chelsea.
In their next game they beat Ipswich Town 4-1 at Oakwell, but that has been followed by three consecutive defeats - 2-0 at Crystal Palace, 1-0 at home to Sheffield United and 2-1 at Burnley last Saturday. They have dropped to 20th in the table, just a point above the relegation zone with just six games left, and facing promotion-chasing Watford at Vicarage Road next Wednesday.
Welsh International Lewin Nyatanga has been on loan to them from Derby County for most of the season from August, but returned to The Rams in early-January when he had three appearances for them. Unfortunately for Barnsley, two of those appearances were in the F.A. Cup so Nyatanga is unavailable for Sunday. And also unavailable is Steve Foster who would have switched from his usual full-back position to take Nyatanga's place. Foster sustained a badly-bruised foot in the 2-1 defeat at Burnley last weekend and is forced to miss Wembley, leaving Manager Simon Davey with a few selection-problems to solve before Sunday.
Barnsley's line-up at Burnley last Saturday was:- (4-4-2)
Luke Steele; Steve Foster, Lewin Nyatanga, Dennis Souza, Rob Kozluk; Jamal Campbell-Ryce (sub.Michael Coulson), Brian Howard, Bobby Hassell, Diego Leon (sub.Kayode Odejayi); Jon Macken, Danny Nardiello. Subs not used - Marciano Van Homoet, Martin Devaney, Istvan Ferenczi.
