Snapshot: On reflection the three points were won fairly by Wolves on Dave Jones' return to Molineux on Saturday - the result adding another twist to the Play-Off race, though certainly not deciding anything with twenty four points still to play for.

A Denes Rosa goal after fifteen minutes was the only of a first half that was dominated by our hosts, though was end to end with a few half chances for the Bluebirds who managed to fire forward to win a number of corners.

Then after a delay to the second period, Wolves came out strong, winning a penalty after fifty seven minutes for Miller to fire in for the win. From that point the game was all but over, with Cardiff looking off the pace and a little tired. We lost on the day, though will look to next weekend at Plymouth to reverse our fate if Wolves can't take advantage away to leaders Reading.

Pre-Match: Mid March and the Bluebirds are heavily involved in the race fro a play off place. The achievements of the Bluebirds this season have been fantastic and Dave Jones knew that his side would have to be on top form to get anything from this game.

It was a bitterly cold and dry March day, but one thing was for certain - the atmosphere on the field at Molineux was going to be hot. Both sides are pushing for the play off's and Wolves were looking to welcome the return of Dave Jones. There was also the matter of a convincing victory here last season for the Bluebirds. The scene was defiantly set.

The Bluebirds Boss received a tremendous reception from the Wolves supporters. It was a touching moment with the home fans acknowledging what the City Gaffer had achieved here in the West Midlands. Even the two Wolves mascots got in on the act, giving Dave a big cuddle.

Team News: Wolves made a number of changes to the side that drew with Stoke at home on Tuesday night. Some forced through injury; others through the tinkering of Wolves manager Glenn Hoddle.

Darren Anderton and Mark Kennedy missed the game through injury. Former Manchester United and England Captain Paul Ince came into the midfield to add some steel and bite.

Former Wolves player Kevin Cooper came back into contention for the game but the Gaffer decided to stay with the same starting eleven that has played in the last 3 league games.

Detailed Report: With three players in the City side that have played for Wolves' arch rivals West Brom. lets just say they were forwarded an interesting reception from the Molineux faithful.

Early pressure from the home side saw Paul Ince hitting a rasping drive from 30 yards that went straight at Neil Alexander. Kenny Miller had taken a surprising wide right position and it was a quick ball from him that set Aliadiere up; but his header was poor and the Bluebirds could clear.

It was the on loan player from Arsenal that again tested the City defence a good run down the left then a shot that went narrowly wide of Alexander's right hand post.

The opening ten minutes really belonged to the home side and the Bluebirds needed to get a grip of the second ball and it wasn't long before the deadlock was broken.

The opening goal came on the fifteen minute mark with the impressive Aliadiere creating space in the box to shoot across goal and Denes Rosa had a simple tap in at the far post.

Wolves 1-0 Cardiff

Minutes later Miller, who seemed to have acres of space again, broke down the right - his cross found Frankowski; his shot on the turn flashed past Alexander's left hand post.

It really should have been 2-0 when Aliadiere got on to a through ball from midfield and Alexander did well to come and close down the angles and save with his chest.

Our first chance came on 20 minutes when a Koumas free kick on the left evaded the Wolves defence and Cameron Jerome just couldn't get there. The ball played back in by Whitley was easily dealt with.

Jones made an alteration to his formation and Joe Ledley sat in front of Chris Barker to try and stifle the threat of Scottish International Kenny Miller.

Then Jason Koumas nearly got the Bluebirds level with a superb run from inside his own half and being tracked by Lescott. Unfortunately Koumas just couldn't get the shot away and it went wide of Postmas post.

339

A succession of corners on 33 minutes never really came to anything when the delivery really needed to be of better quality from the wide players as both Koumas and Ledley failed to beat the front man. In the end it was left to Neil Cox to try and ambitious effort that flew over the Wolves bar.

Moments after that we had a fantastic chance to draw level another Koumas corner came into the box; this time with precision and both Purse and Thompson seemed to get in each others way. In the end Thompson headed tamely and straight into Postmas hands.

339

The Bluebirds really started to get on top and another great run from Cameron set up Scimeca on the edge of the box, but his shot was never going to trouble the Wolves keeper.

With just a minute to go in the first half City put together a well worked free kick on the right which involved Koumas charging towards the box; though his left foot shot flew wide of goal. It was another effort from the Bluebirds as they seemed to get more and more into the game. Hope had grown with the travelling 1,400 supporters from South Wales.

339

It was the Bluebirds that finished the half on top and a Jeff Whitley shot forced Postma into a smart save he spilled it but managed to just get it back under control just as Thompson bared down on him.

Half Time: Wolves 1 - 0 City

The second half started after a delay, with Wolves coming out of their blocks quickly. Kenny Miller ran at the City defence straight from the kick off and Neil Cox managed to block him. The referee adjudged it to be a foul when it looked a fair challenge. The resulting free kick from the edge of the box was spooned over the bar by Naylor.

Cox was then booked moments later for shoving the goal scorer Rosa in the back and it was another opportunity for a set piece. Again Ince stood over the ball before Naylor had another effort that was never going to trouble Alexander.

339

The next piece of action that Cox was involved in gave Wolves a penalty kick that Kenny Miller dispatched past Alexander to give Wolves a 2-0 lead. The penalty seemed a little harsh as Frankowski went to ground quicker than you could say Jack Frost.

It seemed to then become the norm from Wolves players as Miller ran at Purse and then went down like as if he had been found by a sniper in the stands; Purse picked up a yellow card for the challenge.

We created our own chance not long after the booking with Thompson heading wide for Ardley to then put in a pin point cross. Unfortunately Jerome couldn't make anything of it.

It really was end to end stuff with both sides going at the game with great effort and vigour; but it just didn't seem to be the Bluebirds day.

Dave Jones gave the dice another throw when he sent on Kevin Cooper to a great round of applause from the Wolves fans on 63 minutes.

A wonderful flowing break from Wolves nearly gave them a third Miller who will be greatly missed next season played a one two with Naylor before slotting the ball through to Frankowski his shot was saved by Alexander and Miller then fired the rebound over the bar.

Miller again was at the heart of everything Wolves did he played in Rohan Ricketts and his cross found Frankowski and his shot was well blocked by Barker. With twelve minutes to go Neil Ardley was replaced by Rhys Weston as Dave tried to liven things up and give us some pace down the right hand side.

339

Steve Thompson left the field of play on eighty seven minutes to be replaced by Nsungu; Thompson had worked hard but never really had the right service in the right areas.

Unfortunately the Bluebirds couldn't muster up the same comeback as they had at Kenilworth Road. All three points stayed in the West Midlands.

The game was not going to decide the fate of the play offs and that is something that Bluebirds manager Dave Jones has stressed to his players. On reflection it would be fair to say on the day Wolves just had that little bit more with key moments of the game going their way.

Its another away trip next Saturday where we travel to Plymouth and with 24 points to go there is Everything To Play For.
