Following City's 1-0 win over Ninian Park visitors Southampton, manager Dave Jones spoke to the press.

"It was always going to be a battle, we knew that. They came here and strung five across the middle and there wasn't a great deal of space in there to play.

"Sometimes we put ourselves in difficult situations by overplaying because every time we looked up they'd put everyone across the half-way line and it was difficult to break them down.

"We got the goal and in the game we probably had the chances to have made things a little bit easier but they are fighting for their lives and they've got a lot of quality players. They weren't going to lie down and they kept coming.

"I believe in my players so as long as we did the right thing, we didn't do the right thing after 30-seconds because we gave them the opportunity to score and they missed it.

"After that we got the goal and Joe probably should have scored from six yards out. Then Whittingham had a good chance, little things like that. We wasn't as free flowing as we would have liked so then it does become a battle an we are trying to do the right things, which a lot of players did do.

"Like I said they are in a situation where they are not going to lie down and we had to match that."
