ACADEMY: CWMBRAN 1-1 CARDIFF U19S
Cardiff young guns fire themselves into the FAW Youth cup final via a penalty shootout against Cwmbran Celtic.
Cardiff created a number of chances in the early goings of the game as Zak Evans and Rhys Kelleher were the first to test the Cwmbran goal. Zak Evans' effort curled just over the bar and Rees Kelleher came even closer when he struck the wood of the bar.
Cwmbran applied some pressure of their own and came close with a few opportunities that worried Cardiff 'keeper Josh Magennis. It was Cwmbran who took the lead with around twenty minutes to go as Owen Llewellyn took advantage of a long ball upfield to beat Magennis and give Celtic a 1-0 lead.
The lead didn't last for long though as Cardiff levelled barely two minutes later as Jonathan Meades put the ball in the net from a Rhys Kelleher. Cardiff survived a last onslaught from Cwmbran as they pushed forwards in search of the elusive winner.
In extra time, Zak Evans nearly snatched victory for Cardiff as the midfielder put the ball just over the bar. The game would have to be settled by penalties and it was Cardiff who triumphed 3-1 as Zak Evans scored the decisive goal after Magennis had saved two Cwmbran penalties.

Coach's Comments: Cardiff Coach Geraint Twose:
"The boys played well today, they kept possesion of the ball but it was the killer instinct that was lacking. We must have had 80% possesion today, but we couldnt kill the game off. But I think it's`easy to forget it is an U-19 tournament, we have had a number of 16 year old's playing at every stage and we're in the final."
